Assemblymember Monning Opposes Oil Drilling Off California Coast
(Sacramento, CA) During the marathon embly floor session to deal with the states budget deficit, emblymember Bill Monning (D-Carmel) stood in opposition to the proposal to allow a lease to drill for oil in the Tranquillon Ridge Field from an existing platform in federal waters off the California Coast near Santa Barbara. emblymember Monning called the proposal shortsighted, potentially dangerous to the environment, and that California could have raised substantially more money with an oil extraction fee on the oil already being pumped from the ground under state waters.
